Committee approves release of 2024 KCTCS project funds

The Senate Appropriations and Revenue Committee voted to give favorable expression to House Joint Resolution 34, authorizing the release of funds appropriated in 2024 for three projects within the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS).
Jason Petrie, who presented the resolution, said the measure authorizes release of previously appropriated funds for three KCTCS projects. Todd Kilburn, chief financial officer at KCTCS, and Chris Krumrein, chief external affairs officer, appeared to answer committee questions about the projects and system priorities.
Senator Funke Fraumeyer asked whether KCTCS colleges were exploring greater use of campus facilities for community services such as public health or workforce offices and whether a resolution could encourage coordination. Krumrein said each college is “deeply dedicated to the needs of the communities that it serves” and that KCTCS would share recommendations as opportunities arise.
The committee recorded a roll call in which Chair McDaniel announced the result as nine ayes and no nay votes; the committee gave the measure favorable expression and sent it forward.
The presenters did not provide project-level dollar amounts in the committee remarks; committee members and KCTCS officials discussed general opportunities for local partnerships and facility optimization.
