County approves audio-visual and acoustic upgrades for Hampstead Annex auditorium to support community events and theater

Pender County commissioners approved a purchase order March 10 to upgrade audio-visual equipment and acoustics at the Hampstead Annex auditorium, a frequently used county facility for meetings, trainings and community theater.
Marcel Miranda, Pender County IT director, presented the recommended award to Acoustic Creations following two solicitations that yielded a single responsive bidder. The proposed equipment list includes a 161-inch electric projection screen, a 4K short-throw projector, large side displays, an intuitive touch-panel control system, wireless microphones, permanently mounted speaker arrays and acoustic wall treatments. The vendor—s proposal includes one year installation and product warranty plus product-specific manufacturer warranties.
Miranda and Parks & Recreation director Zach White told commissioners the upgrades will reduce set-up time for groups that now bring their own equipment and will enable county staff to provide a more professional presentation environment for public meetings, rentals and theater productions. Emily Graham, founder of Untitled Theater Productions, addressed the board earlier during the public-comment period and told commissioners the theater program has sold out multiple productions and that better sound is the most requested improvement; she said the group currently brings its own portable sound system.
Commissioners asked about ongoing staffing and support; staff said facility attendants will continue to be required for after-hours rentals and the system is designed so nontechnical users can operate it with user documentation and county support. The board approved the budget amendment and purchase order for the project.
