The Town of Pittsboro manager told commissioners on March 10 that the town cannot open the new skate park until a required fence is completed and that staff plan to install a temporary fence within about a month.
Staff discovered that the skate-park equipment requires a fence on three sides because of the height of a bolt; the manager said the town would reuse an existing dog-park fence as a temporary measure while permanent improvements are funded and scheduled. The manager said a staff member (Tony) has funding available to pursue required changes and that crews will work to get the park open as quickly as possible.
The manager also noted the town would be attending an upcoming Main Street Conference and asked residents to contact staff if they have urgent business while staff are at the event.
No formal vote or funding appropriation was taken at the March 10 meeting; the manager characterized the skate-park status as a short-term construction and safety issue to be resolved before opening.
