Russell County hospital leadership briefed the Fiscal Court on a planned expansion the hospital estimates at $30 million to $35 million and said the project is expected to be cash‑funded rather than financed.
Scott, identified in the meeting as the hospital CEO, told the court contractors had indicated an earliest ground-breaking of April or May and a construction timeline of about 12 to 16 months. “If you believe what the construction people tell you, they say April first or May, they'll put a shovel in the ground,” Scott said. He described planned work that includes a new emergency room, operating rooms, expanded radiology to bring MRI services into the main building, a new front lobby, increased parking and a relocated helipad.
The CEO described the project as an estimated $30 million to $35 million expansion and told the court the hospital expects to cash-flow the work rather than borrow. “This will be a 30 to $35,000,000 expansion. And, we won't be borrowing money for it,” he said.
Separately, the Fiscal Court approved the reappointment of Steven Fletcher to the hospital board. Magistrate Richardson moved to reappoint Fletcher and Magistrate Skaggs seconded; the motion passed by voice vote.
Why it matters: the expansion would change the hospital’s footprint and services in Russell County, including emergency and diagnostic capacity. Court members praised the hospital and noted the potential economic and health-service impacts on county residents.
