The Columbus County Board of Education approved three optional employee-funded benefit programs after presentations from the district finance officer, Mr. Nolan.
Nolan told the board the proposed Nationwide pet-insurance plan would be 100 percent employee-funded, offer reimbursement options (50% and 70% plans for cats and dogs) and require a minimum of 10 employees per policy to secure the quoted rates; the board approved offering the plan as an employee option. Nolan also presented a combined long-term-care insurance option described as complementary to existing short-term disability coverage; the board approved offering that combined long-term-care policy, also at no district cost. Finally, Nolan recommended the district offer an Equitable Roth 403(b) post-tax option as a voluntary, employee-funded retirement choice; the board approved that option as well.
Board members clarified the programs would not require district funding and would be participation-based; Nolan confirmed there is no employer match for the Roth 403(b) option under the plan described.
