Director Clinton told the board the old boiler in the camp room is nonrepairable because replacement parts are no longer available. "Our old boiler in the camp room is nonrepairable. They don't make the parts for it anymore," Director Clinton said.
Commissioners discussed options including replacing the unit with a smaller, on-demand boiler or installing two smaller units; they also discussed replacing the hot-water heater and the logistics of taking the system out of service for tie-in work. Director Clinton said removing and replacing the boiler requires careful scheduling to avoid long service outages and that ATCO had not provided a cost estimate when asked.
Commissioners directed staff to develop cost estimates and potential funding sources, including looking for carryover funds and coordinating with Clerk Miller and other county staff about where budget authority would be found. Staff noted that upgrades could be staged so tie-ins minimize downtime and that work might need to occur during nighttime hours. The county did not approve any expenditure at the meeting; staff were asked to return with options and cost estimates.
