Forsyth County's Department of Social Services asked commissioners on March 10 to approve an amendment to its contract with Neelom Labs LLC, doing business as ArcPoint Labs of Winston-Salem, to cover increased utilization of drug screening services.
Krista Smith, director of the county's Department of Social Services, told the board the request would bring total payments to the vendor to no more than $62,000 for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025. Smith said some screenings are court-ordered and others are ordered as part of child protective services investigations of families alleged to be using substances.
Smith said the department has seen higher compliance since it selected an on-site provider, reducing transportation barriers and extended collection-hour constraints that limited use of an off-site provider. Commissioners asked whether the screenings are court-ordered; Smith said "some are court ordered, some are with our Child Protective Services, and they're in relation to exploring assessments that we have on families alleged to be using substances."
Staff characterized the request as an operational contract amendment driven by higher utilization and the convenience of on-site testing. The briefing recorded no formal vote; staff said the amendment will be on the March 13 agenda for board action.
