Commission approves preliminary platting of Johnson County Community College campus

The Overland Park Planning Commission unanimously approved a preliminary plat (PLT 2024-73) on Monday to formally plat Johnson County Community College property at 12345 College Boulevard. Commissioners and staff said the item is an administrative cleanup: the college property had not previously been platted and the action establishes lot lines and easements but does not authorize new development.
Planner Kenny Gooch presented the plat and easement exhibit and said it does not propose changes to existing easements. Applicant representative Roger Barrett of SK Design Group said the plat is simply formalizing property lines for the long-established campus; no new construction was included in the submittal.
One adjacent resident, Karen Sorensen, asked whether existing easements and a private fence line between her lot and college property would change as a result of the plat; staff and the applicant said the plat does not alter existing easement patterns and that any questions about private fences are a property-owner issue to resolve with the college.
Commissioner Reitzes moved approval of the preliminary plat with stipulations A and B; the motion passed 9–0. Staff said the college will return with any future construction or final plats as necessary.
