County selects Antigua Latin Restaurant as interim Courthouse Cafe operator

Rami (Ronnie) Peltz, leasing manager in Economic Development (DAS), updated the committee on efforts to find a new operator for the Milwaukee County Courthouse cafe after two prior operators declined to renew. Peltz said broad outreach generated interest from about 40 parties and that Antigua Latin Restaurant was selected based on operator experience, financial history and menu diversity.
Peltz said Antigua is an established local operator (about 20 years), holds a brick-and-mortar location in West Allis, operates a catering business and an empanada food truck, and is certified as an MWBE (WBE/MBE). The county signed a 12-month food-service contract with Antigua including a 2‑6 month renewal option at the county’s discretion. Antigua is operating a grab‑and‑go window on the G level while renovating the space; renovations include new kitchen equipment, painting, lighting, and natural elements to improve the atmosphere. The anticipated opening timeline for the renovated cafe was described as spring (May) pending deferred-maintenance work.
Supervisors thanked staff for expediting a temporary solution to provide food service for jurors, judges and staff; several asked to be invited to any grand-opening events and suggested using county communications to promote the new operator.
