Committee backs county resolution to support Monterey Market’s $250,000 WEDC grant application

Celia Benton, director of economic development in the Department of Administrative Services, asked the committee to authorize a county-board resolution supporting Monterey Market’s application for a Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation community development investment grant for up to $250,000 to assist renovation of a new location at 7025 West Main Street.
Benton said the proposed location would include grocery offerings, a Monte Financial Services office, an ice cream shop and an American 1 Insurance location, and that the project was expected to add “up to 55 new full time and 25 new part time employment opportunities.” Benton told the committee that, if awarded, the county would enter an MOU to provide a resolution of support but would have “no financial obligations, no liability for their application, full indemnification of the county.”
Supervisor Gomez Tom moved to recommend adoption of the resolution. The committee’s roll call recorded 5 ayes, 0 noes; the item was recommended for adoption and will proceed to the full board and to the finance committee as noted in the record.
Representatives from Monterey Market — Magali Baquera, Jorge Meraz and Robert Monte Mayor — were present and available to answer committee questions about the project.
