Joint Appropriations Committee approves March 6 minutes, defers docket to next morning and adjourns

The Joint Appropriations Committee of the South Dakota Legislature approved minutes from March 6, 2025, deferred its full docket until the next morning at 8 a.m. and adjourned during a short morning session.

The action began after the committee confirmed a quorum. Senator Zickman moved to approve the March 6, 2025, minutes. "I move to approve the minutes of March 6, 2025," Senator Zickman said. The motion was seconded by Senator Howard and, after the chair called for the ayes and nays, the motion passed.

Committee members then suspended consideration of the day's agenda. The presiding officer said, "I'm deferring the entire docket to tomorrow. We will start, morning at 08:00. So everything is being deferred till that time." Items identified on the docket included budget items for the Department of Revenue, the Governor's Office of Economic Development, the Department of Health, the Unified Judicial System and Public Safety, which will be considered when the committee reconvenes.

Before adjourning, the committee paused for a brief introduction of two student pages. Shortly thereafter Senator Giddens moved to adjourn; the motion was seconded by Senator Howard. After the chair called the voice vote, the chair said, "We are adjourned." The committee then recessed to caucus and will resume consideration of the deferred docket at 8 a.m. on the committee's next scheduled meeting day.
