Sandhill Crane Golf Club presents about $81,000 from 2024 Veterans Golf Classic to VA West Palm Beach Resource Center

Sandhill Crane Golf Club representatives and West Palm Beach VA officials appeared at the March 6 Palm Beach Gardens council meeting for a ceremonial check presentation and an update on the club’s charity initiative.
Casey Mitchell, general manager at Sandhill Crane Golf Club, and head golf professional Michael Armit thanked council and volunteers and introduced VA West Palm Beach representatives. Dr. Ronald Williams, chief of staff at the VA West Palm Beach VA Health Care System, described how community donations help veterans: "Every penny donated is a chance for the American hero to believe in their strength, and that change is possible," he told the council.
Carrie Boyd, chief of social work services at the VA West Palm Beach, described services the Veterans Resource Center provides: walk-in services with showers, laundry, clothing and a food pantry; a HUD-VASH voucher program; transitional housing; and assistance with security deposits, utility payments, IDs and move-in kits. Boyd said outreach has identified more than 180 veterans and that the center has handled several hundred homeless hotline calls this year.
Casey Mitchell said the 2024 Mayor’s Veterans Golf Classic sold out with 144 participants and that, combining auction and event proceeds, the club raised funds for the VA. The presenters described the total at two nearby points in the meeting: Dr. Williams said the event raised about $81,000, and Mitchell later announced a donation amount of $80,935.09 to be presented to the VA.
Ending: Council members thanked the organizers and sponsors. The VA representatives and club staff asked for continued community support for veteran outreach and services.
