County awards public-works and fleet software; system will integrate with county GIS and 911

San Patricio County voted to award an RFP for countywide public-works and fleet-management software and authorized staff to implement the system, county staff said.
Jessica Newman, the county purchasing coordinator, presented the recommendation to award the contract for public-works software that will track road maintenance and fleet maintenance across precincts. “All the commissioners after we get it installed and ready to roll, we're already using part of Iwerks, but you will be able to track your roads. You will be able to track when it needs to be retopped or reworked, and you will actually be part of this program,” Newman said.
Why it matters: Commissioners were told the software would create a countywide record of road and vehicle maintenance — a requirement for some funding programs — and would integrate with existing mapping tools. Newman said the product will transfer data to BlueRaster and tie into 911 GIS.
Commissioner Gillespie asked how much the road-and-bridge precincts had been consulted; Newman said precinct superintendents participated in the scoring process. Commissioners also asked whether the new system would duplicate current work; Newman said it would “intertwine” with existing tools rather than duplicate them and that an infrared (“x‑ray”) scan of county roads would establish pavement-life baselines.
A motion to approve the award carried unanimously. The court directed staff to proceed with installation and training for precinct superintendents.
