Crockett — Resident John Jenkins told the council during public comment that he has filed a petition with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission for a package store permit and said he will pursue a public election on the matter in May.
Jenkins said he filed paperwork to seek a package store permit on South Fourth Street (he stated the property location in his remarks as "08:07"). He said the matter has been publicly noticed and that, if needed, he will request that an election be held in May so residents can vote on the permit.
Jenkins also told the council he purchased the property at a sheriff’s sale and has invested about $41,000 in improvements over the past two years, but that utility poles remain on the lot. He said city staff and others have worked on easement and removal issues without resolution and asked the council to direct utility providers to remove poles located on his property. Jenkins said he had been working with Lee Stanley on the matter but described the delay as ongoing and asked for a decision.
Councilmembers acknowledged the comment; no formal action on the petition or the utility-pole issue was taken during the meeting.
