Resident urges more transparency from Crockett council, asks for routine reports and clearer post-executive-session information

Crockett — In public comment at Monday’s joint meeting, resident Kat Cross urged the City of Crockett to improve transparency around executive sessions and to provide routine written updates on city activity between meetings.

Cross said that when the council holds an executive session and returns to open session, residents are often left uncertain about what occurred. She asked for a report from the city manager or mayor detailing what had transpired since the previous meeting and said the public has a right to know how city funds are being spent.

Cross also urged the council to make supporting materials for council meetings more accessible earlier in the week, saying that some residents and newer council members need time to review documents that are often posted only shortly before meetings. She suggested residents be able to discuss questions with staff or council members before the meeting if they have concerns about agenda items.

Her comments were part of a wider public-comment segment that included other speakers on unrelated topics; council members acknowledged the request and said staff would follow up where appropriate.
