Dr. Jeremy Gerson, Torrance Mayor Pro Tem and council member for District 6, told the City Council on Oct. 27 that he recently attended the Torrance Unified School Districtollege and Career Fair and urged continued community support for student opportunity programs.
"It was an amazing event," Gerson said, noting participation from local public and private universities and a range of businesses. He cited UC Irvine, the University of Southern California, Loyola Marymount University and Whittier College as among the postsecondary institutions represented, and he said business exhibitors ranged from college-essay services to language programs. "We can't forget ROTC," he added, and said he visited the U.S. Air Force table because "I'm a little partial to the Space Force."
Gerson emphasized the fair's role in helping students weigh options. "Events like these empower students to make informed decisions, whether they choose college, vocational training, or entering the workforce," he said. He framed attendance at such events as a way to build connections that "shape future leaders, innovators, and professionals."
The council member identified himself as a former school board president and a 27-year educator with a doctorate in education when describing why the issue matters to him. He encouraged residents to remain engaged with local government and school-community programs through the My Torrance CA app and Torrance Alerts.
The remarks were a summary and call for continued community support; the transcript does not record any formal council action or vote tied to the college and career fair.
