Escondido outlines Measure I rollout, spotlights deferred maintenance needs

Mayor White told the City Council at a special vision workshop that the 1-cent sales tax voters approved last November will take effect April 1 and that revenue flows should begin to appear in city accounts in the early to mid summer.
That tax, Measure I, creates a new, time-limited revenue stream the city plans to program through the budget process, Mayor White said. "It starts the tax actually starts on April 1," he said, and "We should see proceeds roll into the city starting sometime in the early to mid summer." The mayor said staff is preparing forecasts the council will review in the upcoming budget work.
