Clermont County commissioners reorganize leadership, approve routine appointments and kennel travel

Commissioner David Painter was selected president of the Clermont County Board of Commissioners for calendar year 2025 following a formal nomination and roll-call vote at the board's Jan. 8 regular session.
The board opened the meeting with a reorganization motion citing section 305.05 of the Ohio Revised Code. Commissioner Claire Corcoran nominated Painter; the motion carried on roll call with Commissioners Bonnie Bachelor, Claire Corcoran and David Painter recorded as voting yes.
The board recessed for 10 minutes after the reorganization and later returned to complete a nonconsent agenda that included routine appointments, a collective bargaining agreement and reimbursements. The board took one executive session under Ohio Revised Code Section 121.22(G)(1) to consider the employment or compensation of a public employee; commissioners stated afterward that no decisions were made and no actions were taken.
Among items approved by roll call during the meeting: the board moved to authorize payment to vendors as presented (agenda item 10); execute a collective bargaining agreement between Clermont County and the Fraternal Order of Police, Ohio Labor Council, covering the emergency resource supervisor bargaining unit effective Jan. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2025 (agenda item 11); and to add and approve reimbursement for kennel staff travel and training for the two-day adoption event "My Furry Valentine" in Hamilton, Ohio (added after executive session; registration cost listed as $175).
The board also approved multiple appointments and designations with single-motion roll calls, including the appointment of Paige Sheridan to the Clermont County Family Services Planning Committee (term Jan. 1, 2025–Dec. 31, 2027), designation of Emily Acres as prevailing wage coordinator for county public improvements, and various commissioner designations to regional and intergovernmental committees. Item 26, the recommendation to designate Christopher McClintock and Emily Akers to serve on the Tax Incentive Review Council, was taken off the table after executive session and approved by roll call.
Several roll-call results recorded abstentions by Commissioner Painter on specific designations where he abstained from voting. Where roll calls were read aloud, Gail (the clerk of the board) recorded each commissioner’s vote.
The board closed the meeting after routine member comments and an adjournment motion.
