The San Gabriel Planning Commission on Feb. 10 approved a conditional‑use permit allowing Carapro Sound Studio (planning case CUP24‑006) to operate an open‑floor karaoke business at 529 East Valley Boulevard, Unit 268C.
Associate Planner Marlon Cervantes told the commission the business currently offers karaoke equipment rental, installation and demonstrations and would expand to add public‑format karaoke where participants sing on an open stage with seating for other patrons. Proposed hours are weekdays 1 p.m. to 12 a.m. (with a brief closed period midday) by appointment and weekends 1 p.m. to midnight. Staff recommended conditions of approval to require soundproofing to reduce noise impacts on neighboring tenants.
The applicant, Kirby Yu Chin of Carapro Sound Studio Inc., told the commission the shop's existing activities include equipment rental and practice sessions for small community groups, and that the proposed public karaoke format also serves senior gatherings and practice for performers. The application was noticed to nearby property owners and tenants and staff concluded the project is exempt from CEQA under guideline section 15301 (existing facilities).
No public opposition was presented. The commission voted 4‑0 to approve CUP24‑006 subject to the recommended conditions of approval; Chair Schwartz, Vice Chair Krantman, Commissioner Carney and Commissioner McMorris voted yes.
