Military Stability Commission presents 15-bill veterans package to committee

Jake Proctor, representing the Military Stability Foundation, presented the Military Stability Commission's 15-bill legislative package to the Veterans, Military Affairs and Public Safety Committee at its first meeting of the year. "We're the operating arm of Lieutenant Governor's Military Stability Commission working to expand and protect military installations and make Alabama the most military and veteran friendly state of the country," Proctor said.

The package covers a range of measures aimed at veterans and military families, including proposals to expand veteran treatment courts, create a public-private workforce center for veterans, broaden higher-education and dependent scholarship eligibility, and allow military medical records to substitute for state'issued immunization documentation for school enrollment.

Why it matters: Committee members were told the bills are intended to support recruiting and retention of military missions and to reduce administrative burdens on service members and families. Proctor said some measures also aim to ease employment transitions for military spouses by supporting interstate occupational licensure compacts.
