City staff reported several operational updates at the Forest Lake City Council meeting on Jan. 13, including the start date for a new employee, a holiday closure, and temporary restricted access at a lakeside launch ahead of scheduled events.
Jolene told the council that Mark Stotts will begin work for the city on Feb. 18 and that city hall will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day; the council workshop will be held Tuesday, Jan. 21. The council did not vote on these items; they were presented as staff updates.
A staff member identified as Dave reported that the Lakeside launch has been barricaded to allow ice to firm up in advance of an event schedule that will run for about five weekends beginning after the coming weekend. "We're doing it more for the events that are coming up ... so that that is the reason behind it and why we're trying to let that firm up," Dave said, explaining the closure is aimed at ensuring safe conditions for recurring weekend events. He noted alternate access points exist for the public.
Chief Peterson and other staff reported no additional updates. Council members took the updates under advisement and expressed appreciation for timely staff work; no formal action was taken.
