The Hardee County School Board on Feb. 10 named Shoemaker, Kendrick & Loop LLP as the district’s school board attorney and designated Michael McKinley as the primary contact, subject to a corrected notarization on the contract documents.
Board discussion showed the selection followed a committee review that interviewed two finalist firms. Miss Dasher, who served on the hiring committee, said the recommendation was unanimous. The board voted to approve the firm; the motion was amended on the floor to require that the contract be re‑notarized by a notary who is not related to Mr. McKinley after a board member flagged that the notary on the submitted document (Zenia/Zinnia McKinley, spelling transcribed) appeared to be Mr. McKinley’s wife.
The board approved the amended motion by voice vote. The amendment instructs staff to obtain a properly executed notary signature and to advise the firm that the board expects notarial independence on future submissions.
