El Mirage honors Detective Frank Torres and proclaims Feb. 19 as Sharon Antis Day

The City of El Mirage presented two recognitions Feb. 19, 2025: Detective Frank Torres received the Veterans of Foreign Wars 2024 Police Officer of the Year award, and the council issued a proclamation declaring Feb. 19, 2025 as Sharon Antis Day in recognition of her 21 years of service as city clerk.
Nikki D. Bacon of VFW Post 285 presented the award to Detective Torres, noting his more than 20 years of police experience and his role as a lead detective in a recent robbery-homicide investigation that led to arrests. Bacon told the council Torres had been chosen for the West Valley investigative response team and praised his investigative work: “Detective Torres embodies the qualities of a truly exceptional investigator and the highest traditions of law enforcement,” Bacon said.
Detective Torres accepted the award and posed for photos with council members and attendees.
The council then issued a proclamation honoring Sharon Antis, who the council cited for 21 years of service as the city clerk and for maintaining records and supporting municipal operations. Mayor Alexis Edemancio read the proclamation and thanked Antis for her service, calling her an invaluable member of the city’s staff and noting colleagues would miss her.
Both recognitions included brief remarks from officials and a photo opportunity with council members, the award presenter and family members.
