El Mirage council recommends beer-and-wine license for Walmart fuel station

The recommendation followed a staff review and a public hearing at which the city’s police chief told council members the department found no reason to object to the application. John Curtis, an attorney representing Walmart, told the council the fuel center’s convenience store would begin selling beer and wine and was expected to open next week.
The recommendation motion, made by Vice Mayor Parsons and seconded by Councilmember Dorsey, included a clerical correction to the license number recorded in the hearing. The correct license number is 318724. The council called the question and the motion carried with all members present voting in favor. No members of the public spoke in opposition during the in-person or virtual public-hearing periods.
Chief (unnamed), who presented the city’s review to council, said investigators had checked state records and the corporation commission and found the applicant in good standing. “We see no reason to have any objections to this application,” the chief told the council during the hearing.
Curtis, the applicant’s attorney, described the proposal as a straightforward addition of a fuel center convenience store and said the company had not received complaints about the location. The council closed the public hearing before taking the motion.
