Sam Harvey, outreach and education officer for the Nevada Commission on Ethics, reported Jan. 16 that the office has increased live and online trainings, is developing an ethics ambassador toolkit and is preparing outreach for the commission’s 50th anniversary.
Harvey said 15 people attended the newly elected officers briefing and that Nevada Ethics Online training activity has risen: the average number trained in any six‑month period since January 2023 was roughly 687, and the commission saw approximately double that in the second half of 2024. Harvey also said the commission’s newsletter subscriptions rose slightly after targeted outreach to state departments.
On social media, Harvey reported an X (formerly Twitter) follower count of 350 as of the meeting and said staff are monitoring other platforms including Blue Sky. Harvey said staff will continue to focus on distributing ethics training and resources to public officers and employees and that outreach work benefited from in‑person exchanges at a recent ethics agencies conference.
Harvey also noted public‑records request volume and ongoing work refreshing educational materials and the ethics manual. Commissioners suggested ideas for 50th‑anniversary items and noted museum and commemorative‑coin possibilities.
