The Nevada Commission on Ethics voted Jan. 16 to delegate to the commission chair authority to give Executive Director Ross Armstrong direction on legislative matters during the 2025 legislative session, rather than holding special commission meetings for routine legislative decisions.
Armstrong said the delegation is intended to avoid convening emergency meetings whenever a bill of interest emerges. The delegation follows standard practice and relies on Nevada administrative rules that permit the vice chair to perform the chair’s duties if the chair is unavailable.
Commissioners asked that the chair consult the vice chair whenever possible and that Armstrong include any legislative direction in the weekly informational updates he will send during the session. Commissioners noted that they may be available for consultation in Carson City and asked staff to keep the full commission informed.
The motion passed unanimously. Commissioners emphasized they had not proposed any bills this session; the commission will monitor other bills and the commission’s budget request, and staff will report back as needed.
