The Janesville Generations Fund presented a $5,000 check to the School District of Janesville on Feb. 11 to support the district’s Bags of Hope initiative, a program the fund said will expand snack bags for in-class use and backpacks for students over spring break.
Katie Huthel, a member of the Janesville Generations Fund board, said the board reviewed the district’s application and determined the initiative addressed a year-round need for students facing food insecurity. Huthel identified several donor-advised funds and local charitable funds that supported the award and noted that the Generations Fund has awarded $37,500 in 2025 and more than $464,000 to nonprofits benefiting the Janesville community to date.
Board members and district staff accepted the presentation; the grant was described as an award to expand services through teacher-accessible snack bags and spring-break backpacks. No district policy change or vote was required at the presentation.
Representatives attending with Huthel included Steve Huth, Austin Watson and Heather Last, who joined Huthel in presenting the check to district staff.
