House approves change allowing reduced barriers for juror service after expungement or reduction

Representative Melissa Ballard, speaking in support of the substitute, said the measure simplifies and broadens eligibility to allow individuals whose felony convictions have been reduced or expunged to serve on juries. Ballard said the revision had support from a range of stakeholders including prosecutors, courts, and public defenders.
The House adopted the substitute and the floor vote recorded by the clerk was 45 yes and 25 no. The clerk announced the bill will be sent to the Senate for its consideration.
