The River Heights City Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit for a home child-care business proposed for 585400, during its Jan. 14 meeting.
The applicant, Yanira Lopez, sought permission to operate “Den Home Care Service” from her residence with a state child-care license for up to eight children. Commissioners approved the CUP with conditions limiting the total number of children to eight, hours of operation from 5:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, staggered drop-off and pick-up times, and a condition that the CUP terminates if the applicant moves from the address.
Commissioners heard no public comment on the request. City staff confirmed the property owner signed the application and that Lopez previously operated a child-care business in Logan. Staff said Lopez’s license requires inspection by the fire marshal and that she must complete the city’s business-licensing steps after the commission’s approval.
Lopez told the commission parents would not park in the neighborhood and said parents would use the house driveway for drop-off and pick-up at staggered times so arrivals would not overlap. She described providing care primarily for infants and preschool‑age children during daytime hours and for some school‑age children before and after school.
A motion to approve the CUP application dated Dec. 10, 2024, with the conditions listed above was made and seconded; the motion passed by voice vote. The commission’s chair said the action will become effective after formal adoption at the commission’s next meeting, scheduled two weeks later, and that Lopez should follow up with staff to complete licensing requirements.
Staff and commissioners advised Lopez to work with the recorder’s office and the planner handling business licenses to confirm any remaining requirements before beginning operations.
