Mount Pleasant reports successful well start-up; public works to track man-hours on projects

Mount Pleasant staff told the City Council Jan. 28 that a recently completed well successfully started up last week and that work remains to finish punch-list items and bring the treatment plant online.
Public Works and the contractor completed pump/motor start-up and began pumping water; staff reported that SCADA integration work is underway with the city's integrator. "It was a good day," one staff member said of the well start-up, and the council was told the goal is to have both the treatment plant and the well permitted and ready to operate before summer.
In related operational reporting, Public Works said it will implement a man-hour tracker so the department can record the hours spent on each project and separate them from time spent on emergencies. The system is intended to give the council and the public clearer data on how many hours crews spend on particular projects and improve accountability for labor and equipment costs.
Council members said the man-hour tracking will help quantify whether in-house work is more cost-effective than contracted work and asked staff to provide the data when available.
