The proposal, discussed during a meeting of the Bryce Canyon City Local Building Authority, would supply the decorations and lights, hang garlands on light poles, store the materials between seasons and install and remove them; staff said the company would take the decorations down around March 1 after putting them up by Nov. 1. City staff also described an optional display for the ice rink that the vendor estimated at a “couple thousand dollars a year.”
Bryce, a city staff member, said the quoted price “includes the lights,” and that the vendor would “provide it all, they’d store it all, they’d come put it up, come take it down.” Bryce added that a three‑year contract averaged slightly above $9,000 per year and that an annual price under a one‑year signing would have been closer to $10,000. “If that price includes the lights, I think it’s worth looking into,” Bryce said.
City staff and board members also discussed the condition of existing park banners and light‑pole brackets. Gene, a city staff member, said several banners are tearing and some brackets appear to have slipped; board members agreed to replace torn banners with spares where available and to repair brackets when seasonal garlands are removed.
The meeting included a brief review of recent pavement maintenance. Staff reported that crack sealing work was completed in Ruby’s area and that follow‑up by city staff indicated the contractor did additional cracking work in places not originally requested. One staff member said the project provided a “pretty good deal” given the additional work done.
Separately, staff raised an estimated $3,000 fee from a contractor for preparing or updating a CASI document. Bryce called the fee “crazy” for what he described as a brief update and suggested the city consider waiting until later in the year to decide whether to commission the work; board members asked staff to follow up and clarify scope and timing before committing funds.
The authority also voted to approve travel to fire school for personnel and later formally adjourned the LBA meeting. The motions were made, seconded and approved by voice vote with no roll‑call tallies recorded in the transcript.
