Resident raises Sunshine Act concern after commission meeting notice not found on township website

A resident at the Huntington Township Planning Commission meeting raised a concern that the township's official website displayed the Board of Supervisors agenda rather than the Planning Commission agenda, and said the mismatch could constitute a Sunshine Act violation.

The resident said they checked the Huntington Township website in the late afternoon and found the Feb. 13 Board of Supervisors agenda posted instead of the commission's Feb. 20 agenda and that they had screenshots documenting the condition. The resident asked the commission to note the assertion of a Sunshine Act violation in the minutes.

Commission members asked township staff to verify which website was meant and to check the posting. A commission member said staff would double-check and follow up going forward to ensure postings are reliable. Later in the meeting during public comment the same resident urged the commission to consult the township solicitor, stating their understanding that actions taken at a meeting without proper public notice could be null and void if the public was not properly informed; the commission said it would check with Solicitor Todd King.

Commissioners recorded the resident's assertion in the minutes and instructed staff to review the website postings and confer with legal counsel on any required remedial steps. The meeting record shows a public concern was raised and that staff agreed to investigate and consult the solicitor; the commission did not reverse or rescind actions taken at the meeting during the session itself.
