Planning commission recommends bids for Meijerstown and Greenbrier culvert projects; Meisterstown roof project scheduled for construction

The Huntington Township Planning Commission recommended that the Board of Supervisors advertise bids for two culvert projects and reviewed plans for a Meisterstown roof/road project expected to require a short road closure this summer.
Commissioners voted to recommend that supervisors solicit bids for the Meijerstown culvert project after staff confirmed permit approvals and final plans and specifications. The commission also recommended bidding Greenbrier Road culvert work; both recommendations passed by voice vote.
Township staff said the Meijerstown permit approvals and plans are complete and that the commission's recommendation would allow the supervisors to move the project to bid. For Greenbrier Road, staff reported that temporary culvert crossings must be removed by Friday under permit conditions and that backfilling was underway so traffic could be restored as the contractor completes work.
Separately, the commission reviewed plans for a Meisterstown roof replacement and related road work. Staff estimated the project cost at about $340,000 and said the plan would likely require the road to be closed for roughly four weeks; total construction and ancillary work could extend to two to two-and-a-half months. Commissioners discussed funding timing and whether to delay the project to seek county funding in the next budget year; members decided to proceed with the recommendation to bid rather than delay because the road was considered to be in poor condition.
Members also discussed construction logisticsincluding temporary bypasses and working windows to avoid conflicts with the apple harvestand noted the advantage that some work would not require a temporary culvert bypass, which reduces scope and cost. The commission told staff the plans would remain on file for review and asked that contractors and staff coordinate access and tree-line impacts during construction.
All motions to recommend bidding the projects were approved by voice vote and forwarded to the Board of Supervisors.
