Beer board approves permit for Miss Mary’s Hideaway; applicant must provide lease and business license

The Shelbyville Beer Board on Jan. 8 approved an on-premises beer permit application for Katrina Carlton, who said she will operate as Miss Mary's Hideaway at 1612 Simmons Road, provided she submits required documentation before the permit will be issued.
During a standard questioning of the applicant, board members confirmed Carlton had reviewed the city's beer rules and ordinance and understood rules prohibiting sales to minors. Carlton described the business as a small bar that will sell packaged beverages and minimal snack items; she said she has experience managing a family-owned establishment.
Board members approved the application by voice vote after staff confirmed the applicant must deliver a copy of the lease or owner acknowledgement and a copy of the business license to the city recorder before permit pickup. The board and staff told Carlton she must also pay the $100 annual privilege tax at the time of permit issuance and that the fee is nonrefundable.
Staff instructed Carlton to submit the owner’s written acknowledgment that beer will be sold on the premises and to check with the business-license counter at City Hall for the license processing. City Recorder Smith and staff said the license will be available at the front counter once processed and that the applicant should bring those documents to staff to receive the issued permit.
