Baltimore County executive tells delegation state budget cuts threaten county services

Madam Baltimore County executive addressed the Baltimore County House Delegation on Feb. 7, saying the governor’s introduced budget would remove $19 million from the county and that the county is working with state and federal partners to protect education and public safety.
The executive told the delegation that “uncertainty” is the keyword for this legislative session because of shifts in the state budget and a new federal administration, adding that inflation and rising construction and labor costs also strain county finances.
She said the recently enacted Maryland Time to Care Act could “potentially save Baltimore County $20 million” depending on how regulations are applied, and asked delegation members who have contacts at the state Department of Labor to raise the county’s concerns about the implementing regulations.
The executive introduced several members of her government affairs and administrative teams who will work with the delegation on bills and constituent matters, and asked delegates to use the county staff as a resource.
Members of the delegation welcomed the appearance and praised county staff, and delegates noted the county’s longstanding bond rating and asked for continued partnership as the session continues.
The delegation did not vote on any matter during the appearance; the county executive left the meeting after brief remarks and then the delegation moved to its scheduled bill hearings.
