Perkins allocation: NH DOE says roughly $6.9M for state programs, $1.2M flows to community colleges

A Department of Education speaker explained the distribution of federal Perkins funds for career and technical education (CTE). "Our allocation comes in at about just under $7,000,000. So we get about 6,900,000," the department representative said, adding that about $1,200,000 of that amount is distributed to the state's community college system (Community College System of New Hampshire) and then divided among the system's seven colleges.
The speaker said the remainder of the Perkins allocation covers department administration (a small percentage), state-initiated programs and the bulk that flows to regional career and technical education centers and K–12 CTE programs. The department noted that Perkins funds can support middle and high school CTE participation and some college-level activity, but the majority funds regional centers and secondary programs.
Committee members asked whether Perkins funding supplements Pell or other financial aid at community colleges; the department representative suggested that question is best answered by community college officials since local application of funds varies.
