The Gettysburg Area School District Board voted to table agenda item 7.2, an informational discussion of a proposed football cooperative sponsorship with Fairfield, until a meeting with a full quorum.
Board members moved to separate 7.2 from other informational items and then moved to table the item for a future meeting. The motion to table was seconded and approved in a roll call vote: Al (yes), Alice (yes), Jeremy (yes), Michelle (yes), Tim (yes), Ryan (yes) and the board president (yes).
Board members said some expressed concern that they first learned about the cooperative through local news coverage rather than district channels and that football draws significant public interest. One board member asked whether accepting Fairfield into the district program would require the district to count Fairfield’s full male enrollment for grades 9–12—potentially moving the district into a higher playoff classification. Staff said athletic and budget discussions are ongoing and at the present stage it was not anticipated to move the district into the next classification.
Board members asked that questions for the athletic department be submitted in advance so staff can provide answers at the next meeting. No final action on the cooperative was taken at this session.
