Committee members reported that the townLocal Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP) has received state approval and will now move to federal review.
A committee member said the state-level review has cleared the way for the towndocument to progress, replacing older shoreline guidance from the 2000-era document. "The LWRP, basically has been approved by the state of New York, which is exciting. Which means that it now moves on to the federal level, for the federal government to adopt it," the committee member said.
Why it matters: state approval is a prerequisite step for federal consideration of an LWRP; the committee flagged that federal timing and approvals are dependent on what issues are currently under consideration in Washington and on federal agencies.
Next steps: the committee did not take formal action in the meeting; members said they will monitor federal review and follow up with appropriate town departments as the process proceeds.
