Tyndall Academy rebuild faces noise, lease and environmental hurdles; sound study to guide design

Lee Walters, district facilities staff, summarized a sequence of events: the original 1950 Tyndall structure, an earlier lease and subsequent environmental concerns (including lead shot from a historic range under a slab), later efforts to reuse an existing design and the emergence of several site options on and off base. Walters said one site on base was judged unsuitable after remediation concerns and that the district and the base then evaluated multiple alternative parcels, including locations inside the base perimeter and the so‑called Cleveland Gate site outside the secure fence.
