At its July 22 meeting the South Euclid-Lyndhurst Board of Education voted to submit a 7.9-mill additional property tax levy to district electors and approved a consent agenda that included financial reports, personnel actions, contracts and the start of repairs at Brush High School.
During liaison reports, the board's legislative liaison summarized recent state action on the fiscal 2025 budget bill (House Bill 96) and noted the Ohio House voted to override one of the governor's line-item vetoes; the board recorded the update for informational purposes.
The board approved the treasurer's recommendations, including June 2025 financial reports, bank reconciliations, investment earnings and the renewal of the fiscal year 2025 GAAP audit with Local Government Services. Trustees then approved a resolution to submit the 7.9-mill levy to the Board of Elections for placement on the ballot.
Superintendent Dom Capel reported the district has begun repairs at Brush High School as part of the district's master facility plan and reminded residents that the full master facility plan and a back-to-school information page are available on the district website. Capel said he will present district priorities for the 2025–26 school year at the August meeting.
On the consent docket the board approved a range of routine items: minutes from the July 15 special meeting; personnel actions including appointments, paid and unpaid leaves, resignations and a confidential settlement; nonrepresented staff contract edits; supplemental contracts and volunteers (including esports and band volunteers); a set of outside-provider contracts for special education and tutoring services; the student athletic handbook; the Edmentum EdOptions Academy contract; a Rite Aid schools contract; and multiple business-office items (10.1–10.15) that included moving forward construction work at Brush High School.
Board members asked for follow-up on some contracted services. One trustee said she would contact staff about student food service complaints and a signed petition from roughly "over 100 students." Another trustee asked for clarification about catering pricing and vendor arrangements for a prom venue; staff responded that vendor selection and pricing were included in the contracts being approved.
Several items received brief discussion before approval. The board approved a supplemental contract list for esports coaching and unpaid volunteers and recognized a longtime volunteer (Andy Matovic) who will be leaving after graduation.
All listed consent items were approved by roll call votes recorded on the meeting record; the transcript shows aye votes from the full five-member board on the consent agenda items presented that evening. The board also approved the Board of Education Handbook and next steps for the district's master facility plan work.
