CDRA updates park maintenance; reports vandalism, plans camera review and extra cleaning

The Community Development and Redevelopment Agency on June 10 heard updates on park maintenance and event preparations, including progress on a new sprinkler system, the reopening of restrooms, and recent vandalism that damaged a drinking fountain and restroom fixtures.

Agency members were told the sprinkler system installation is progressing and that staff expect roughly two more weeks of work before it is complete. Staff reported the park restrooms have been in use for about a week since being reinstalled. Agency members and staff said a drinking fountain and a soap dispenser had been damaged; a staff member also described interior wall damage. Staff said they will review surveillance-camera footage to try to identify those responsible.

Officials discussed operational implications for scheduled pavilion reservations, including adding midday cleaning or restocking for high-use days. Agency members also talked about crowd-control and safety measures for upcoming events: fencing or posts to cordon off areas, moving a movie or library chalk event away from a soccer field, and limiting vehicle access to reduce the risk of children running into traffic.

Members noted local youth sports teams use the field and may track muddiness as a maintenance concern. Staff suggested coordinating with the first reservation holder to help with cleanup and asked to monitor vandalism and supplies more closely. No new funding or ordinances were proposed during the discussion; staff described the items as operational updates and short-term responses.

The meeting began at 6 p.m. and proceeded through routine business after the park discussion.
