Commissioners proclaim June 9–13, 2025 Child Welfare Professionals Appreciation Week in Carbon County

The Carbon County Board of Commissioners adopted a proclamation recognizing June 9–13, 2025 as Carbon County Child Welfare Professionals Appreciation Week and publicly thanked staff of Children and Youth Services for their work.
A member of the board read the proclamation, which detailed the risks child welfare professionals face while investigating abuse and neglect and noted the staff’s role in helping children remain safely at home or return safely when possible. The proclamation also highlighted long hours, low pay and the emotional and physical risks faced by caseworkers.
Jill, the director of Children and Youth Services, addressed the board by phone from a conference on child welfare laws and regulations and thanked commissioners for the recognition. Jill said the department had 13 caseworkers with a range of tenure from four months to 20 years and praised their dedication and willingness to enter difficult and sometimes dangerous environments to help children and families.
Commissioners and other speakers thanked Children and Youth staff and acknowledged the difficulty of the work. The board moved to adopt the proclamation and recorded approval.
