The Olentangy Local School District Board of Education approved multiple consent and superintendent action items at its June 12 meeting, including a district insurance renewal, capital repairs and several procurement and personnel recommendations.
The board approved a proposal to purchase property, fleet and liability coverage through the Ohio School Plan for the 2025–26 policy year at a premium of $1,117,845. District staff presented the Ohio School Plan as a risk-sharing pool for Ohio public school districts that increases per-occurrence and aggregate limits (district staff said the recommended plan increases coverage and uses rated reinsurers). Miss McDevitt, director of business management and facilities, said the plan absorbs the first $150,000 per casualty claim and $500,000 per property claim with reinsurance covering the remainder.
The board also approved capital work and procurement items carried on the superintendent’s consent agenda: roofing and building-envelope repairs at Shanahan Middle School (to address leaks and wall/block weaknesses), purchase of district classroom furniture and public seating, and Amendment No. 2 with Fanning Howie for design services on Shanahan Middle School projects in the amount of $130,000. Superintendent and board counsel explained the roofing work responds to recent leaks near the music room and that several roofs and envelope elements will be addressed during summer work.
Board members approved routine human-resources recommendations, including the hiring slate of several assistant principals and classified substitutes, and recognized retirements. The board took these personnel and procurement items as omnibus consent actions; the roll-call votes on the consent and superintendent consent items returned unanimous affirmative votes from the five board members present.
