Assembly declares June 2025 Electronic Dance Music Month

The California State Assembly on May 29 adopted Assembly Concurrent Resolution 92, designating June 2025 as Electronic Dance Music Month and recognizing the cultural and economic contribution of EDM and related live events to the state.

Assemblymember Mark Gonzales, the resolution's author, described EDM’s roots in “the margins in the backrooms of black, brown, and queer clubs” and framed the designation as recognition of a creative culture and an economic sector that supports venues, stage crews, vendors and local small businesses. Gonzales closed debate, telling members “Let June be loud. Let it be proud, and let us recognize and honor the first electronic dance music month in the state of California.”

Several members, including coauthors from across the state, spoke in support. Assemblymember Jeff Gonzalez noted large festivals such as Coachella and Stagecoach in his district and highlighted the economic activity those events generate. Other coauthors described personal connections to dance music and the social value of gatherings and community-building at festivals.

The resolution recognizes the history and varieties of EDM and the industry’s role in generating tourism and local revenue. The clerk recorded 65 coauthors before members adopted the resolution by voice vote. The author provided bandanas in the chamber to commemorate the designation and introduced industry representatives present in the gallery, including Pasquale Rotella of Insomniac and Kobi Dannen of Framework, who were acknowledged from the floor.

ACR 92 is a concurrent resolution recognizing a cultural month and does not establish regulatory or funding measures. The Assembly adopted it as a formal acknowledgment of EDM’s cultural and economic presence in California.
