“We did have 4,000 from last year that we were able to put towards” the purchase, the County Clerk said. The clerk said that during the last election the county received ballots late and had to order a second set; having an in-house printer would avoid that problem. The clerk added that the purchase will cost $9,905 this year and that annual maintenance and programming fees would be $850 in each of the following two years, bringing the three-year total to $11,605.
Commissioners asked about capacity and use. The clerk said one unit will support the county’s current single polling place, and that the county may seek a second pull pad and printer next year if demand requires it. The clerk said towns holding local elections could rent the equipment for their contests.
A motion to approve the purchase request for the clerk’s office to No Inc, LLC in the amount of $9,905 carried; commissioners indicated their approval by voice vote.
The clerk and commissioners noted the state recommendation for broader adoption of poll pads and said the equipment should reduce voter check-in errors and give staff immediate access to voter status during voting hours.
