WellSpan donates nearly 10 acres to Greencastle-Antrim for environmental center expansion

WellSpan representatives formalized a donation of nearly 10 acres to the Greencastle-Antrim School District on June 5, 2025, the district’s interim school board directors meeting heard.

John Massimila of WellSpan presented the district with “the key to the land” and said, “It’s our pleasure to be able to donate this land to you, and I’m sure you’ll put it to good use.” Nikki Hirschpool, identified in the meeting as senior vice president of the West Region, and Angie Hartman from WellSpan communications joined Massimila for the presentation.

Superintendent (unnamed during the meeting) summarized the donation, saying the property is “for nearly 10 acres ... that will extend our environmental center” and suggested the land could be used to extend cross-country trails or for athletic uses as the community grows. Board members and district staff planned a photo at the center after the meeting and discussed next steps toward settlement.

District staff later noted settlement activity was moving forward with additional updates expected the following Tuesday. The donation was described as the conclusion of a process that took about two years to complete. The board did not record a formal vote on the donation during the public portion of the meeting.

The donation is expected to expand the district’s environmental center and provide options for outdoor programming and athletic use. No additional funding commitments or specific development plans were approved at the June 5 meeting.
