Workers'comp: Staff reported an insurance quote from ICW Group at about $252,000, a roughly 13% increase but substantially better than a renewal quoted by the district's agent; staff noted the district's mod-rating (experience modification) rose to 1.97 from 1.42, which contributes to higher premiums. Staff said a few large claims in the look-back period are increasing the mod and that lowering the mod will require several years without new major claims and continued safety work.
Liability/cyber: The district participates in a Minnesota pooled trust for liability and cyber coverage; staff said the renewal produced a modest rate increase (~2.2%) and that cyber liability coverage remains available through the pool, a benefit for districts that would otherwise struggle to secure cyber coverage.
Kindergarten readiness camp: Staff announced plans to communicate with families registered for kindergarten about a half-day kindergarten-readiness camp the week of Aug. 18; the district will survey families on preferred length (1-4 days) and will plan for half-day sessions, orientation activities and some transportation funding built into the budget if needed.
ADA/accessibility: Trustees asked for a broader ADA accessibility assessment beyond student-specific needs. Staff said their present focus is on individual students known to need accommodations next year but that they can bring options for a comprehensive facility-level assessment and suggested the board could add that as a future agenda item; staff also noted prior work and that such an assessment would carry a cost.
Ending: Staff will bring cost details and options for a comprehensive accessibility assessment to a future meeting (suggested July) and will send family communications about kindergarten readiness camp; the workers'comp and liability/cyber items will appear again for Board action as needed.
