Board celebrates retirees, perfect iRead scorers and student-athletes at June meeting

The board opened its June 9 meeting with celebrations recognizing retirees, students with top assessment results and student-athletes and performing-arts participants.
Superintendent Dustin Garren recognized Tammy Sharp, a first-grade teacher at Brookville Elementary School, for 33 years in education (27 with the district). Sharp told the board: "The best part of my job was working with amazing children, parents, and staff. I've gotten to know over 600 students and families. I have loved interaction and rapport that I have with the students and their families throughout the years. Seeing the academic and social growth of each student from the beginning of the year to the end of the school year has always been so rewarding to me. I will miss the hugs, high fives, and the children's stories and their smiles." The board noted she was unable to attend and sent regrets.
The board also recognized Keith Isaacs on his retirement after 11 years with the district; his roles included 6 years as the high-school principal and five years as director of operations. Isaacs described improving building systems and facilities — including the music suite, sports facilities, HVAC upgrades and roofing projects — as the part of his work he most enjoyed.
District staff introduced three students who earned perfect iRead scores over a two-year span: Jackson Cooper, Silas Kopp and Rosalind Graff. The superintendent said only three students in two years across the corporation achieved perfect iRead scores and called the accomplishment "absolutely incredible."
The meeting also honored music, art and athletics achievements: FCHS Treble and Concert choirs received Silver and Gold ratings at the Indiana State School Music Association contest; FCHS students were selected to the National Band Association Indiana All-Star Marching Band and several Brookville/FC athletes and middle-school competitors were recognized for conference honors and record-setting performances. Certificates and public applause followed each recognition.
Why it matters: the recognitions highlight staff longevity, district academic milestones and student extracurricular achievements — routine but publicly acknowledged elements of the district’s year-end activities.
The meeting then proceeded to routine business including consent items and personnel approvals.
