The San Ramon City Council presented a proclamation declaring June 2025 ‘LGBTQ+ Bridal Month’ and honored PFLAG Danville‑San Ramon Valley during a special presentation.
Councilmember Rubio read the proclamation and presented it to Anu Gupta, president of PFLAG Danville‑San Ramon Valley. Gupta thanked the city and described Pride as “a celebration and a life‑saving affirmation,” referencing the history of the movement and the continued threats some LGBTQ people face. “Pride is still a struggle for basic human rights and a life‑saving affirmation of love and support,” Gupta said.
Angie Cortone, assistant principal at Monte Vista High School and a PFLAG board member, told the council she was grateful for the proclamation and said it signals city leadership is committed to making students and community members feel safe and valued. “Acknowledging Bridal Month is a celebration of our differences and recognition of inclusion and unity. But it is more than just that,” Cortone said.
Council members expressed appreciation for PFLAG’s work and recalled past efforts to secure visibility for the LGBTQ community in the region; one council member referenced supporting a flag‑raising effort years earlier and described how difficult it was at that time. Council members reiterated the city’s messages of inclusion and said San Ramon strives to be welcoming to all residents.
The proclamation presentation was a ceremonial, non‑voting item. No formal council action was required.
