Culpeper Police Department receives Advanced Law Enforcement Accreditation certificate

The Culpeper Police Department received an Advanced Law Enforcement Accreditation certificate at the Town Council meeting on June 10, a presentation by the accreditation program's executive director said.
Craig Hartley, identified in the meeting as the program executive director, presented a certificate reading in part: "Be it hereby known that the Culpeper Virginia Police Department, having fully demonstrated its voluntary commitment to law enforcement excellence by living up to a body of standards deemed essential to the protection of the life, health, and safety, and rights of its citizens it serves...is hereby...awarded this certificate of advanced law enforcement accreditation effective on the March 2025 and is recognized as an accredited law enforcement agency for a period of 4 years." Hartley said the department has demonstrated continuous compliance and oversight by the commission.
Chief Settle (identified in the meeting as the police chief) accepted the recognition and credited the department's staff and community support for making the accreditation possible, saying the award represents a team effort "from the chief of police to the newest recruit officer to our civilian staff" and described accreditation as a report card to the community.
The accreditation presentation noted the department has participated in the accreditation program since about 2005 and that the commission annually reviews compliance to ensure standards are maintained. No formal council action was required for the recognition.
